- DEVELOPMENT OF MOTION-BASED MESSAGE CONVEYER FOR PARALYTIC/DISABLED PEOPLE
Best Thesis ECE Department SY2015-2016
Paralysis and disability is a complete or partial loss of motion and sensation. This loss of function hinders basic human function. They require assistance from caretakers or family members in fulfilling needs such as eating food and drinking water. Paralytics, the disabled and the caretakers are the subject of this research.
The researchers came up to a proposal that helps them. The “Development of Motion Based Message Conveyer for Paralytic/Disabled People” purpose is to provide basic and easy communication between a paralytic/disabled and the caretaker. The proposed system works by reading the tilt direction of the paralytic/disabled person’s hand (right, left, up, down). The device is worn like a glove by the paralytic/disabled. Then the device conveys the message (SMS) up to areas that has GSM reception. Up to two phone numbers can be registered as the receiver of the message and the phone numbers can be updated anytime. The buzzer will activate to inform the paralytic/disabled that the message was sent. The project was evaluated by Engineers/Technical persons and end-users (paralytic/disabled/caretaker). The result shows that the evaluators were highly satisfied with the workability of the project. The overall mean of the project was rated 4.74 which indicates that the project was excellent.
- DEVELOPMENT OF A ZIGBEE-BASED POWER AND WATER CONSUMPTION MONITORING SYSTEM
Manual meter reading is the traditional way of management of electricity and water providers. The meter reader people goes to each meter and take the meter reading manually to issue the bill which will later be entered in the billing software for billing and payment automation. Because of disadvantages of traditional meter reading such as errors in reading, inaccuracy, external conditions affecting readings and delayed work the proponents have developed a meter reading system based on latest ZigBee technology.
The proponents of this research designed and implemented a wireless communication system for measuring and displaying amount to be paid and power and water consumption of every household. The prototype was fabricated using digital electric meter with a 1600 imp/kWh and flow sensor with 4.5 pulses/L/min specifications for measuring utilities, ZigBee modules and interface circuit in communication, Arduino Uno as core processor, and a computer database. This system performs tasks such as taking and displaying meter reading with a secure log-in for providers to view the readings and print it. The accuracy and reliability of the readings were also verified and tested. The system went through a series of evaluations from competent groups of people who gave their honest opinions and recommendations. Using a quantitative technique of analyzing the data, the results obtained a grand mean of 4.74 remarked as “EXCELLENT”. Therefore, the prototype has outstandingly complied what it has designed to do, thereby meeting the standards as per design and as set forth by this institution.
- DEVELOPMENT OF GPS AND GSM BASED TRACKING SYSTEM
Flexible monitoring systems that allow owners to acquire present location of their assets have become an essential part of almost every professional ventures and personal endeavors. These systems provide a solution for tools and equipment location tracking useful for business inventories and tracking management. The existing tracking devices are either limited to the tracking device alone without a web server or are complete system but very expensive that limits the individuals to acquire a tracking system for their personal or business activities.
Our prototype, GPS and GSM Based Tracking System, is capable of tracking vehicles mounted with the mobile tracking unit at a much lesser price than the existing tracking systems. The unit is independently powered by a rechargeable source for 40 hours. The prototype has a Track-It website integrated with Google Map for monitoring the vehicle’s current route. Track-It is accessible through the database station and also through internet browsing. The system went through a series of evaluations from knowledgeable group of people and agencies who gave their honest assessment and recommendations based on the seven point criteria namely functionality, aesthetics, workability, durability, economy, safety and saleability. Using a quantitative technique of analyzing the data, the results obtained a grand mean of 4.80 remarked as “EXCELLENT’. Therefore, the prototype has complied what it was designed to accomplish.
- DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCT LOCATOR FOR MEDIUM TO LARGE SCALE ENTERPRISES WITH POS SYSTEM
Locating a product in a grocery store, pharmacy, or perhaps a box of products stored in a warehouse can consume a big amount of time. Time is being monitored when it comes to business and more problems could arise if consumers’ needs were not met. Therefore, understanding people attitudes involving their needs are very timely and important especially in doing business.
In relation with this study, product locator with point-of-sale system is made in order to alleviate this problem. The proponents have developed a product locator specifically made for medium to large scale enterprises to easily find the searched products and to have real time inventory system that can print transaction receipt and daily sales report. In the project evaluation, the seven-point criteria method was used. The project was evaluated in terms of functionality, workability, economy, stability, reliability, marketability and safety. The evaluation was conducted through a presentation of the project to different audiences which was a total of 60 respondents composed of students, engineers and personnel working in medium to large scale enterprise. The overall performance of the product gathered a grand mean of 4.80which deemed the project excellent. Therefore, it was concluded that the developed prototype is operational and saleable especially to pharmacies and other related applications.
- GSM BASED POWER OUTAGE MONITORING SCHEME WITH REAL-TIME DATA LOGGING
Recently, electricity has been one of the most priced commodities. However, electricity supply depletes which results to great financial damage. Power distributors have difficulty in responding to power outages especially at remote areas. With this regard, the proponents came up with a solution through outage monitoring scheme.
The GSM-Based Power Outage Monitoring Scheme with Real-Time Data Logging enables the power distributors to monitor outages on an area with real-time data logging, low starting outlay, easy maintenance with user friendly interface. The transmitter unit is encapsulated with an acrylic board with a wooden base that supports the power supply charging the rechargeable battery and sensor; and sending unit controlled by microcontroller. It must be attached in an electric post connected in parallel with the secondary output of the distribution transformer. The air interface connects the transmitter unit and the receiver unit and is limited upon the coverage of the transceiver tower of network providers. The receiver unit consists of a broadband dongle, which receives text messages; a personal computer which runs the application - which translates the text message; and a real-time database which records and logs the translated text message. It must be located on the electric company station where the dispatcher and the linemen reside. The proponents conducted an evaluation using the seven-point criteria in a survey instrument and is proved to be “EXCELLENT” after garnering an overall mean of 4.85. Overall, the research is concluded to be cost effective and advantageous to power distributors.
- SICKNESS AND ALCOHOL DETECTING ENTRANCE
A healthy person is a wealthy person. It is our ultimate capital on our day to day work and activities. And in a certain workplace, quality performance of the worker, quality product and production in a company is a necessity. Despite of the Safety and Security measures followed and done by companies to have a productive output in their day to day quotas and production, human errors are still irrevocable. When the employee working is under the influence of alcohol or may not be fit enough to work but still force to work, this may lead to serious problems in their working environment thus, human errors arises and causes more accidents and unsafely routines. This situation paved us to the development of Sickness and Alcohol Detecting Entrance in a Company.
The project aims to develop a prototype that would enable to detect the employee’s identity and health by monitoring its basic health parameters (pulse rate, body temperature, and alcohol content) through the different sensors used that would enable to get the data and display it for information. In the project evaluation the seven-point criteria method was used. The project was evaluated in terms of functionality, workability, economy, stability, reliability, marketability and safety. The evaluation was conducted through a presentation of the project to different audiences whish was a total of 100 respondents composed of students, engineers, nurses, security guards, and professionals. The overall performance of the product gathered a grand mean of 4.72 which deemed the project excellent. Therefore, it was concluded that the developed prototype is operative.
