The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – Technological University of the Philippines Visayas Student Chapter (IECEP-TUPV-SC) achieved remarkable success at the IECEP National Students’ Summit held at the Marikina Convention Center from October 20 to 22, bringing home multiple awards across prestigious academic competitions.

Representing TUP Visayas in the ECE Math Olympiad Competition, Kent Matthew Amit, Kate Therese Nobleza, and Ezekiel Katindig emerged as champions under the mentorship of Engr. Jovanie Española. Their teamwork and analytical prowess secured the top spot against a field of talented contenders nationwide.

TUPV’s quiz bowl team also showcased their excellence, clinching first runner-up in the Interscholastic Quiz Show. The team—composed of Emmanuel Bedayo, Audrey Garcia, Harley John Gelvoleo, Ivy Mae Mahinay, Jhavhe Arangorin, and Florence James Meneses—displayed impressive composure and intellect in a tight three-way clincher against Cebu Institute of Technology University and Mindanao State University–General Santos, finishing with 175 points under the guidance of Engr. Rhemjohn Dave Pitong.

Adding to their achievements, Bedayo, Mahinay, and Gelvoleo secured another first runner-up finish in the Elite Electronics Showdown, once again coached by Engr. Jovanie Española.

The university’s contingent also recorded strong finishes in other categories, placing 4th in the COMMQUEST Electronics Communications Quiz Challenge and 6th in the Datathon Programming Competition—further proving the versatility and skill of TUPV’s ECE students.

“I am in disbelief since this is my first time winning compared to Bedayo, Garcia, and Mahinay who were placers last 2023 in Math Olympiad, and I am happy to share the IQS Winning Stage with them,” shared Gelvoleo, reflecting on his first national podium finish.

Serving as a substitute coach for the quiz show team, Engr. Pitong described the event as a “very rewarding experience.”

“I saw their dedication from the very first time I met them. During our review sessions, their breakfast was their notes and review materials. I would sometimes joke with them to take a break and relax. They always gave their best and believed in themselves—and of course, they’re from TUP Visayas!”

He further encouraged future competitors to prepare beyond knowledge alone:

“Winning is great, but what truly matters is the learning, the experience, and the bond you build along the way.”

Congratulations to the IECEP-TUPV-SC delegates and coaches for bringing pride and honor to Technological University of the Philippines Visayas! Your achievements stand as a testament to excellence, teamwork, and the spirit of innovation that defines TUPV engineers.
