The Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas (TUP Visayas) has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to sustainable community development with the successful inauguration and blessing of a Solar-Powered Water Distribution System in Barangay General Malvar, Pontevedra, held on January 16, 2026.
The ceremony was attended by Hon. Mayor Jose Maria Alonso, Ms. Corazon Omera (Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, DILG), Punong Barangay Mr. Reman Pornales, Dr. Eric Malo-oy (Campus Director, TUP Visayas), Engr. Jovel Young (Head, Extension Services), Ms. Rutchel Estaniel Pabalinas (Head, External Affairs, Linkages & Consortia), Mr. Mervin Perez (Science Research Specialist), along with barangay officials and community residents who witnessed this milestone project for the community.

The solar-powered water distribution system is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution designed to ensure reliable access to potable water while significantly reducing operational costs. By utilizing renewable energy, the system promotes long-term sustainability and supports the overall health and well-being of the residents of Barangay General Malvar.

Barangay General Malvar is the second community in Pontevedra to benefit from this initiative, following the successful implementation of a similar system in Barangay Buenavista Rizal. These projects are made possible through the strategic partnership among TUP Visayas, the Local Government of Pontevedra, and the barangay leadership, reflecting a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.
